FASHION DESIGN CLASS - FACTORIES & PRODUCTION

Maybe you already have an idea for a clothing brand but no idea where to get started. This class offers a practical approach for our creative-minded design students. We'll start with the basics and teach how to design a collection. From there, you'll create a business plan, learn where & how to get your samples made, and cover all the details that go into starting your own clothing brand and working with a factory!

During this course you will:

· create a capsule collection; create a clothing line
· put together mood boards and collection research
· choose the right fabric for garments and the basics of fabric purchasing
· create a sample with a factory and learn where to get production done
· learn about sizing and grading a fashion line
. create a sales and marketing plan
. perform merchandising math and pricing
. Learn how to conduct website and e-commerce sales

PROJECTS: Design and produce a mini collection 1-2 looks and understand all concepts of where and how to manufacture and produce your clothing line with a factory and how to market and sell your fashion line. Fashion illustration techniques will not be covered in this course - you don’t need it to produce a line! Check out our Fashion Illustration course for sketching techniques.

COST: $400

FABRIC AND SUPPLIES: Supplies will be discussed in first class. (No supplies needed for the first day of class). Fabric and other collection materials will be provided by the students as well as costs associated with working with a factory to produce samples and patterns. Or, you can produce your own pattern and samples outside of class if you already know how to sew.

COURSE DURATION: 8 hours total. Class options: 2 hours once per week for 4 weeks.
