From mastering the basics to designing your own garments, our courses cover everything you need to sew with confidence. Sewing Machine Basics: This class is perfect for complete beginners! You will learn how to competently use a sewing machine and complete a denim tote bag.
During this course you will learn:
· all of the necessary sewing terminology & equipment
· how to make the perfect tote bag
· over 6 different types of stitches & seam finishes you can complete using a sewing machine!
PROJECTS: Denim tote bag
Embroidery Workshop: We're taking a step away from the sewing machine and enjoying the soothing art of hand embroidery. In this class, students are asked to bring an article of clothing they would like to work on, and they walk away with an embellished garment decorated with a word or phrase in their own handwriting. We teach proper hand embroidery technique, the tricks and tools you'll need to get started, and a couple of bordering stitches, perfect for embroidering a fun word or phrase onto your garment.
PROJECT: hand embroidered clothing of choice with a word or phrase.
Sewing Bootcamp: Sewing 101 is perfect for complete beginners & people who have sewn in the past but need a refresher, where they will learn how to competently use a sewing machine and complete a skirt or drawstring pants from a commercial pattern!
During this course you will learn:
· all of the necessary sewing terminology & equipment
· how to read a commercial pattern
· how to choose the right fabric for a garment, either a skirt or drawstring pants
· how to identify fabric grain lines
· different types of stitches & seam finishes you can complete using a sewing machine!
PROJECTS: Denim tote bag and a Pencil Skirt, A- line skirt, or PJ pants from commercial pattern
FABRIC AND SUPPLIES: Fabric provided for tote bag, and the pattern for the skirt/pants is provided as well. Students will need 3-4 yards of non-stretch fabric. wool, crepe, or cotton blends are ideal. Fabric is available for purchase $10 per yard.
Coat and Jacket Class: In this class, you can expand on your Sewing 101 experience by learning to work with new fabrics, new machine sewing techniques, different types of pockets, bindings, buttonholes and more! It's time to get cozy and start sewing!
COST: $375 FABRIC AND SUPPLIES: 2-3 yards of fabric depending on the pattern chosen and 1.25 - 2 yards or lining will be purchased by the student and brought to first class. Fabric must be a non-stretch, non slippery fabric. Great options would be crepe, cotton, poly blend, wool blends. COURSE DURATION: 3 hours once a week for 4 weeks or 2 hours once per week for 6 weeks (12 hours total)
PREREQUISITE: Sewing 101 or relevant experience. PATTERNS: Patterns options will be provided for this class and included. Or student can send us the pattern choice to be approved prior to class.
